The tournament, which took place on September 23 at the beautiful Hattiesburg Country Club, is one of the biggest fundraisers organized each year by the Forrest General Healthcare Foundation. This year, the Foundation’s goal is to raise $1.5 million for three projects to benefit the hospital, including The Asbury Hospice House, the Infusion Center and Healing Garden and the Patient Services Navigation Program.

The hospital has been providing comprehensive, in-home hospice care to end of life patients for many years, but now plans to create an inpatient hospice facility. The Asbury Hospice House will expand the hospital’s current hospice program by creating a warm, comforting atmosphere for patients and their families. The expanded hospice program will provide much-needed support for family members as well as education during the challenging times when a family member faces end of life.

Plans for an upgrade at the Forrest General Infusion Center include better amenities for patients and their families such as television, Wi-Fi and a “Healing Garden.” While patients receive chemotherapy and platelet treatments, they will have access to a private comfortable areas with access to technology, and their families will be able to rest in an expanded waiting area. The planned Healing Garden will provide an attractive outdoor space away from the treatment areas that will be open from dawn to dusk for both patients and family members.

The planned Patient Navigation Services Program will be designed to help patients on their journey from screenings to treatment to follow up healthcare services. The Patient Navigator will be on hand to provide healthcare education to patients and family members, as well as coordinate consistent care between the patients and their various healthcare providers.

The Forrest General Healthcare Foundation’s fundraising efforts are designed to help enhance the quality of healthcare in the community by influencing the timing and quality of the hospital’s projects. The Foundation, in cooperation with the hospital, identifies funding priorities that will have the greatest impact on improving patients’ quality of care. The Foundation has been serving its 19 county region for over 60 years, and Hollis Cobb Associates is proud to play a small role in helping improve the quality of healthcare for the patients in the area of Mississippi that Forrest General serves.
