Many Hollis Cobb employees have causes about which they are passionate. They contribute countless volunteer hours and resources to help others and improve their communities. Ernest Moore is one such Hollis Cobb employee – one of our top collectors, and a collector with a cause.

ernest-1Ernest is the founder of Future Gents, a non-profit organization based in Atlanta, with the goal of using etiquette, enhancement, empowerment, exposure and education to impact the youth in the community by promoting avenues of mental change in hopes of educating young men on how to become gentlemen, more valuable leaders and productive citizens.

The organization focuses on men 25 years of age and under, Ernest said, stressing that, “Everything I do is about creating gentlemen – that is the core of all I am doing.” Ernest said he is committed to making a difference in the lives of young men in the community, particularly “in a world where civility, actual social networking (not using an electronic device), along with the importance of being a gentlemen, have become things of the past.

Future Gents meets at the Stone Mountain Community Center and has a series of programs designed to meet Ernest’s stated goals for the organization including:

  • Education: GED diploma, technical schools, internships, and help with math, science, reading comprehension, writing and communication;
  • Etiquette: table manners, proper attire in public, building and maintaining a wardrobe, greetings and introductions;
  • Employment Skills: dress for success, resume development and interview skills;
  • Financial Literacy: budgeting, banking, credit, money management and bill paying;
  • Self Esteem: anger management, conflict resolution, critical thinking, accountability and family reunification.

Future Gents also offers programs that promote other life skills including teamwork, leadership, spirituality, independent living and health and wellness. The organization and its volunteers ran a highly successful camp over the summer at the Stone Mountain Community Center for young men of all ages.

One of Future Gents main fundraisers is just around the corner. Set for November 6, One Hundred Men Walking is a fashion show designed for the young men that Future Gents serves. Ernest said the purpose of the fashion show is “to showcase males of all ages on a runway, in an effort to show there are still real gentlemen in Atlanta.” He added that, “We believe if there are more positive images of men, the younger generation will follow their lead.”

ernest-7This is the second annual fashion show to benefit Future Gents and will take place from 3pm-8pm at the Defoor Centre located at 1710 Defoor Avenue in Northwest Atlanta. Along with the fashion show, the event will include a meal prepared by Chef Trey, a popular celebrity chef and former winner of Top Chef; a special drink created by Nigel V. Walwyn, owner of Ou Oui in Atlanta; a Gentlemen’s Mixer and goody bags for all attendees. The show will not only benefit Future Gents — a portion of the proceeds from the fashion show will go toward a contribution to the Prostate Cancer Foundation which funds research into the prevention and cure of prostate cancer.
