Over the last year, Hollis Cobb Accounts Resolution Specialist, Cynthia Corchado, has been running in marathons to raise money for charities, and to improve her own health. She has recruited fellow employees, Elsa Dugan and Danielle Kulik to join her in races that benefit a number of causes.
This Saturday, the trio will don their pink tutus, boas and tiaras and run in the Diva’s Half Marathon and 5K Series in Peachtree City, Georgia. The Diva run is part of GoPink, a series of fundraisers designed to generate money for breast cancer research and treatment advancements as well as to raise awareness of the deadly disease. The focus of GoPink is to educate women on how to be pro-active in preventing breast cancer, and for those who are already diagnosed, the organization provides support and information on surviving breast cancer.
Cynthia, Elsa and Danielle have participated in other runs this year for a variety of organizations. Just last month, Cynthia and Elsa did the Rugged Maniac Run for Men’s Health, and Cynthia ran in the 4th Annual Primal Rush event to benefit The Tree House, a nonprofit organization dedicated to reducing the occurrence of child abuse through counseling, education and support.
All three ladies have known someone close to them who has suffered from breast cancer, and that makes this Saturday’s run particularly important to them. Aside from skin cancer, breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed form of cancer in American women, according to the American Society. About 85% of breast cancer cases occur in women with no family history of the disease; therefore yearly check-ups are essential for breast cancer prevention.
About 12% of U.S. women will develop some type of breast cancer at some point in their lifetime, and this year approximately a quarter million women are expected to be diagnosed with invasive breast cancer. The good news is that cases of breast cancer began decreasing in 2000 after increasing for the previous two decades. Reasons for that decline are increased awareness and early detection of breast cancer along with reduced use of Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) which has been found to increase the risk of developing breast cancer.
Hollis Cobb Associates commends and supports employees like Cynthia, Elsa and Danielle, who volunteer their time to help raise money for and awareness of various causes like breast cancer prevention. It is not too late to join these three ladies, and run like a diva this Saturday.
